This week we have been hosting a FREE SHRED EVENT for our clients to be able to help them protect themselves from identity theft. You might be thinking, well how is shredding personal documents going to help me from identity theft? Any document with personal details on them can be used by someone to steal an identity. If you don’t shred your documents before you throw them out, identity thieves are able to use personal details to sign up for things like credit cards or passwords under a stolen identity.
There are many documents that should be shred before you toss them out including, but not limited to:
- Old Bank Statements
- Personal Documents
- Tax Information & Returns
- Investment Records & Statements
- Voided Checks
- Paycheck Stubs
- Credit Card Reports
- Junk Mail
- Travel Itineraries
- Boarding Passes
- & much more!
All of our documents have their own lifespans for when you need to keep them handy. When you have documents that are not ready to be shred, it is important that you store them in a safe and protected area. But once that time has come and gone, it is wise to shred those documents.
When in doubt, have it shredded. The financial and reputational risk of having an identity stolen is too great to not put in the effort it takes to shred a document. Knowing items are shredded and out of harms way of identity thieves will give you peace of mind.
Make sure to gather your personal, sensitive information and bring it on by this week and we will shred it for free for you!
